Haste Is Usually Sin

Pastor Kent McBay pointed out in a recent message some problems impatience had caused. Pastor Leonard Bullock pointed out from Isaiah 28:16 that believers should not make haste.

Isaiah 28:16b: . . . he that believeth shall not make haste.

There is often a connection between unbelief and haste and a connection between faith and patience. Wise and obedient believers will not make haste until they know God*s will. The only time we ought to make haste is when we know God*s will. We are not entitled to tell Him to hurry but He is entitled to tell us to hurry. My impatience is always sin and my haste is often sin.

Galatians 5:22a, c: But the fruit of the Spirit is . . . longsuffering, . . .

Romans 14:23b: . . . whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Psalms 37:9: For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

Proverbs 14:29: He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

Proverbs 21:5: The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.

Proverbs 29:20: Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Ecclesiastes 5:2: Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

Ecclesiastes 7:9: Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Proverbs 18:13: He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

I find very few occasions in the Bible when it was wise for believers to make haste.

Luke 19:5: And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

Acts 22:17-18: And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 18 And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me.

I have had some pastors and teachers that seemed to me to be painfully slow in answering my questions. I have learned that they were Godly men and their keeping me waiting was of the Lord. They were waiting upon Him. It was uncomfortable for me to wait a little while for their answers but it was worth the wait. Waiting upon the Lord is worth the wait.
